EVENT VENUE

14th World Ice Fishing Championship (further in text WIFC) will take place in Riga region, Baltezers. The official fishing ground for the WIFC will be lake Mazais Baltezers.

The surface area of Mazais Baltezers is 198.7 hectares and the average depth is about 4.6 meters. The deepest spot is 10.3 meters. A channel connects Mazais Baltezers with Lielais Baltezers.

The lakebed is diverse, consisting of mud, sand, silt and clay.

FISH AND FISHING INFORMATION
Species Mazais Baltezers contains a large variety of fish species, the most common are:

  • Bleak (Alburnus alburnus)
  • Bream (Abramis brama)
  • Crucian (Carassius carassius)
  • Perch (Perca fluviatilis)
  • Roach (Rutilus rutilus)
  • Ruffe (Gymnocephalus cernuus)
  • Tinch (Tinca tinca)
  • White bream (Abramis bjoerkna)

Other species are:

  • Chub (Leuciscus cephalus)
  • Eel (Anguilla anguilla)
  • Northern pike (Esox lucius)
  • Pikeperch (Sander lucioperca)
  • Rudd (Scardinius erythrophthalmus)

Catch limits and minimum length There are no actual catch limits, but pikeperch (Sander lucioperca) must be 45 centimetres or longer, pike (Esox lucius) 50 centimetres, smaller specimens must be released back into the water immediately.

Maximum amounts of groundbait and bait – two (2) liters of groundbait and one (1) liter of baits, of which a maximum amount of 0,25 liter of bloodworms and 0,5 liter of earthworms.
