Latvia Angling Sport Federation (LASF) is honoured to be FIPSed appointed organizer of FIPSed 14th World Ice Fishing Championship, which will be held in Riga, capital of Latvia, on February 24.-26. 2017.

Hereby we are delighted to present or official invitation to FIPSed 14th World Ice Fishing Championship. Invitation is valid to all member nations and national fishing federations recognized by the FIPSed.

The official website of the championship is http://www.wifc2017.lv, where you will be able to find all information regarding event venue, fishing ground, a detailed schedule and also some information regarding tourism in Latvia.

We will certainly put all our efforts to make FIPSed 14th World Ice Fishing Championship an exciting one and we are looking forward to meet each and all of you in Riga!

EVENT VENUE

14th World Ice Fishing Championship (further in text WIFC) will take place in Riga region, Baltezers. The official fishing ground for the WIFC will be lake Mazais Baltezers.

The surface area of Mazais Baltezers is 198.7 hectares and the average depth is about 4.6 meters. The deepest spot is 10.3 meters. A channel connects Mazais Baltezers with Lielais Baltezers.

The lakebed is diverse, consisting of mud, sand, silt and clay.

FISH AND FISHING INFORMATION
Species Mazais Baltezers contains a large variety of fish species, the most common are:

  • Bleak (Alburnus alburnus)
  • Bream (Abramis brama)
  • Crucian (Carassius carassius)
  • Perch (Perca fluviatilis)
  • Roach (Rutilus rutilus)
  • Ruffe (Gymnocephalus cernuus)
  • Tinch (Tinca tinca)
  • White bream (Abramis bjoerkna)

Other species are:

  • Chub (Leuciscus cephalus)
  • Eel (Anguilla anguilla)
  • Northern pike (Esox lucius)
  • Pikeperch (Sander lucioperca)
  • Rudd (Scardinius erythrophthalmus)

Catch limits and minimum length There are no actual catch limits, but pikeperch (Sander lucioperca) must be 45 centimetres or longer, pike (Esox lucius) 50 centimetres, smaller specimens must be released back into the water immediately.

Maximum amounts of groundbait and bait – two (2) liters of groundbait and one (1) liter of baits, of which a maximum amount of 0,25 liter of bloodworms and 0,5 liter of earthworms.
